Project 1 – Social Media Graphics

Introduction

Effective graphic design for social media provides support towards brand recognition and connects the target audience with a business and services. Getting visual on social media can increase brand awareness and grow follower’s engagement. Including an image with your post can increase the number of shares, retweets or post likes almost 3 times. That’s why it’s so essential to pick the right picture or artwork for your post content.

Graphic design for social media is not just a nice image with a bit of text on top. Depending on the information you want to post, it is very important to use certain font styles, color schemes or graphics layout.

  • Due Date: Tues, Oct 12 @ 2:00PM
  • File Name: LastName_SocialMedia_1.jpg
  • File Name: LastName_SocialMedia_2.jpg
  • File Name: LastName_SocialMedia_3.jpg

In Canva, you will create 3 social media graphics for the business you created a brand style guide for in the previous exercise. If you plan to use imagery, I would recommend photos from unsplash.com or pexels.com. The graphics will be used on Instagram so be sure to use 1080 x 1080 pixels when setting up your document in Canva, or use the Instagram Post preset. At least 2 of your graphics should include some sort of call to action. Try to stick as close as possible to your brand style guide, but if you’d like to use an additional font or different colors to portray a certain emotion, that’s ok.

In Canva, click the Download Arrow Icon and make sure the file type is PNG or JPG. Select the Download button to save to your computer. A zip folder should be downloaded to your folder with three of the graphics in it. Make sure to upload all three individually and not the entire folder.

The file names should be:

LastName_SocialMedia_1.jpg or LastName_SocialMedia_1.png
LastName_SocialMedia_2.jpg or LastName_SocialMedia_2.png
LastName_SocialMedia_3.jpg or LastName_SocialMedia_3.png

Submit the 3 graphics through the Assignments tab on Canvas.
